I private bookmark because I like privacy. On my Ao3 I have a few curated, un-privated fics to keep my profile from being blank, but everything else, regardless of it's purpose, is private. I also only bookmark things I've read. I sometimes get the urge to read older stuff and dig through my bookmarks for rereading.
