Stihl 462 vs 500i.
Nov 1, 2022 · Looking at the specs from the Stihl website, they aren't as far apart in terms of power and weight as some people would claim, the 500i is a bit heavier and a not-insignificantly amount more powerful. The throttle response on the the 500i is awesome, but I don't know how it compares to the 462, should be better from what I've been told.

The mufflers on these saw are quite remarkable. A lot of engineering went into them. They have some of the largest opening areas of any produced Stihl’s and still keep the noise level down.

These are all saws that die out in 2019 in europe i know so far: Husqvarna: 372xp xtorq, 576xp, 390xp, 395xp, 3120xp. Dolmar: 115, 9010. Solo: 665, 675, 681. The ONLY reason you would go with a 462 over a 500i is becuase the 462 is cheaper. 500i will run both a 25 and a 28" bar better than a 462. The weight penalty is almost negligible. Starting is better IMO, power is better, the 500i feels more solid imo. I have both.

I just looked at the Stihl UK site. A 661 is $1428 ,a 500i is $1320, and a 462 is $1200. So it looks like 500 will be priced between the 462 and 661. I about have my Dad talked into a 462.
