I liked to imagine some Orc Mages were penitent Warlocks, but younger ones were likely just interested in magic and had plenty of opportunities to study Arcane in the modern Horde. A Tauren Mage might be a lore keeper of sorts, already studious and interested in other cultures before delving into the Arcane. 34.

Part of what made Knaak's trilogy (the original one) so good was that it focused more on three new characters as the protagonists (Krasus, Rhonin, and the Orc) more than it did on establishing the groundwork with the elfers but it did alright with them too.
