Oct 25, 2017 · I know this has been covered in the past, but I have not found conclusive answers for what the best, or acceptable, alternative transmission and front differential oils that can be used for 1998 Sportsman 500. I am using synthetic Chevron Delo 5w-40 in the engine, atf type F in the hubs and currently have dexron III in the transmission.

Well I stopped by Autozone yesterday and discovered a quart of Havoline 75W90 Synthetic is $14 a bottle. So there is really no cost savings advantage. The Polaris oil is $19 a quart. I worked at a parts store that was owned by the same guy that owned a Polaris dealership and they used transmission fluid. I have been using trans fluid since 1998 and it hasn't caused any problems. I work on atv's and that is what I use in all 2002 and below models.
