At the turn of the century, the naval "meta" so to speak, was to build the biggest, toughest ships you could. They had more range, more firepower and were harder to sink. Smaller cruisers were just obsolete until after the war with the development of carriers and more damaging torpedoes. This is basically the way Stellaris is too.So to start with, the current (3.8, with the Galactic Paragons DLC) meta is Missiles/Swarm Missiles or Disruptors on everything that can take 'em, with your X slots being Lances, your L slots being Kinetic Artillery, some ships with Hangers, and Flak Batteries because the Hangers have P slots. As with the last meta, pops are power, and the key to getting powerful is to have lots of pops. And definetly don't be lazy by having your ships all try to be 'jack of all trades' ships, like what the AI does. Ignore Montau's old tierlist of ship parts and advice on ships, that doesn't apply anymore. The meta of now is building your ships around the fleet, not building your fleet around your ships like it was in the past.I’ve been trying out a few builds today and found 1 titan, 6 battleships with X slot weapons, hangar and PD, 6 carrier with super sections, 25 cruisers with neutron launchers and the rest being PD destroyers and laser corvettes has been performing well. I definitely am excited to see the battleship spam meta shaken up, I just worry that they might create a different spam meta.
